CYCL… you may recognise the name. This is the brand behind the innovating “Winglights” – the bicycle indicators that were featured on Dragon’s Den (and, naturally, reviewed on Discerning Cyclist).
And now CYCL are looking to expand their cycling accessories empire, this time with a neck warmer-style, anti-pollution face guard/scarf.
I always like to see different products integrated together and this is a great example of doing so. Pollutions masks are becoming an increasingly common sight among city cyclists, so adding this functionality into a practical neck warmer makes a lot of sense – and also a lot less post-apocalyptic!
So, if you’re a little concerned about the air you’re breathing as you ride – but don’t want to look paranoid, the CYCL Face Guard could be a great way to protect your image and your lungs simultaneously.

- More discreet that other pollution masks
Cons
- Pricey
How Does the Anti-Pollution Scarf Work?
While many other carbon-based pollution masks have replaceable filters, the CYCL Face Guard is more permanent solution as it features an integrated PM2.5 nanofibre filter. This RESPOLON membrane filters out 99% of diesel fumes and can help guard against not only smog, but also dust and other allergens – such as pollen.
The Face Guard is made from hand-washable cotton, so you can also (carefully) clean the scarf from time to time without damaging the filter.
This pollution mask is also simply designed and comes in a cool charcoal grey – featuring the green CYCL logo on the front. It features a nose “clip” (don’t worry, it doesn’t clip into your nose!) to help keep it in place, while there is an elastic closure at the back so that you can fit it to your required size and reduce any air leakage.
Best Anti-Pollution Mask for Cycling?
This is really good product, but, as is often the case, there are a few question marks over the price. The CYCL Face Guard is available for £39.99 (currently out of stock – best alternative here) – which is certainly not cheap. You can find other (albeit less beautiful) snoods and anti-pollution masks on Amazon from £10, but you won’t get the same practical styling.
