Encompassing almost the entire continent, there are no other cycling\ntrails quite like them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But just what is EuroVelo, where can you go and how long do their routes generally last? All of this and more will be answered below\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n<div class='code-block code-block-2' style='margin: 8px 0; clear: both;'>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"<a href=\"javascript:;\" onclick=\"ml_webform_5717263('show')\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/discerningcyclist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/sweat-free-cycling-in-line-2.jpg\"><\/a><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is EuroVelo?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bTvdWehoJA8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>EuroVelo is \u2013 at the time of writing \u2013 a network of 14 long-distance\nEuropean cycle routes, as part of a project by the European Cyclists&#8217;\nFederation (ECF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These EuroVelo routes are comprised of both existing\nnational bike routes, like the Dutch LF-Routes, the German D-Routes, and the\nBritish National Cycle Network, and existing roads for pedestrians, connected\nby <a href=\"https:\/\/discerningcyclist.com\/solar-powered-cycle-paths\/\">new cycle paths<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea initially came about in 1995 when the ECF, De Frie\nFugle (Denmark) and Sustrans (UK) original planned to make 12 long-distance\ncycling routes, though the project has been under the total control of the ECF\nsince August 2007.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Changes to the network in recent years include the addition\nof two new routes; EuroVelo 13 (Iron Curtain Trail) and EuroVelo 15 (Rhine\nCycle Route) in September 2011, which are the longest and shortest EuroVelo trails\nrespectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Long is EuroVelo? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/8365\/8517719291_5c3c2525df_b.jpg\" alt=\"Image result for eurovelo\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">EuroVelo Route 6, Romania<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As of May 2013, the EuroVelo routes covered more than 45,000\nkm. The network is scheduled for completion in 2020 and, when finished, its total\nlength will be greater than a staggering 70,000 km.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As mentioned in the previous section, the longest EuroVelo\nroute is the EV13; the Iron Curtail Trail, which covers a huge 10,400km.
